How do I register to vote?

Voters in Washington may register online, by mail or in person at their county elections office.

To find an online form, request a mail form or find your county elections office, visit the Washington State Secretary of State's resource page.

To check your registration, visit VoteWA.gov.

When are elections taking place this year?

  • March 12: Washington's presidential primary
  • Aug. 6: Washington's state primary
  • Nov. 5: Washington's general election

What key races are on the ballot this year?

Voters in Washington will cast ballots this year for federal offices of president, U.S. Senator, and House of Representatives for 10 districts in the state; nine statewide elected offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, state school superintendent, commissioner of public lands, state auditor, state treasurer, and state insurance commissioner. Three state Supreme Court seats are also up for election, as well as eight positions for the state court of appeals.

Voters will also select state senators and representatives for Washington's 49 legislative districts, and judges for superior courts in counties across the state.

What do I need to know about absentee voting?

Military and overseas voters are exempt from registration deadlines and may register and request a ballot up until election day. A voter still must have a Washington address and indicate on the registration either military service or an overseas address.

An absentee voter may registered online at VoteWa.gov, using a Washington State driver's license of identification card, or in person or through the mail by requesting a paper form. Mail ballots must be signed and mailed by election day.

What about early voting?

Mail-in voting begins in Washington state 18 days before each election day.
