Motorcyclists taken to Harborview after collision south of Port Gamble Saturday
Two residents of Baltimore were flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Saturday afternoon, after their motorcycle was struck by a car near the entrance to Port Gamble Heritage Park, just south of the town site of Port Gamble.
The two motorcyclists, a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were riding north on Highway 104 just before noon, according to a memo from Washington State Patrol. A BMW driven by a 52-year-old man from Texas and a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 72-year-old Port Gamble woman, were driving south at the same time.
When the Nissan slowed to allow a car in front to turn into the Heritage Park entrance along the highway, the driver of the BMW attempted to pass. He hit the Nissan from behind, then struck the motorcycle head on, sending the two motorcyclists to the shoulder of the road. Excessive speed was cited as the cause of the crash, and the Texas man was arrested on suspicion of negligent driving, according to the memo.
The motorcyclists were wearing helmets, according to WSP. The drivers of each car were not injured, nor was a passenger in the Nissan. All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
