A 39-year-old Suquamish man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, and eluding police after crashing his motorcycle on Fjord Drive in Poulsbo Wednesday night.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the man was speeding on Highway 305 through Poulsbo just after 8 p.m. when a state trooper attempted to pull the motorcycle over. The motorcyclist sped off and turned right onto Harrison Street, just south of Hostmark, heading downhill toward Fjord Drive.

The trooper turned off his lights and sirens and did not chase the motorcycle, but as the Kawasaki ZX1400 turned onto Fjord Drive, the driver left the road and struck a ditch, and law enforcement caught up to him.

The driver was wearing a helmet but was taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale for injuries sustained, according to the WSP report. The motorcycle was totaled.
