Separate motorcycle crashes over weekend results in 2 vehicular assault charges
A 31-year-old from Port Orchard was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and a pair of riders from Shelton were taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale after two separate motorcycle crashes on Saturday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Around 4 p.m., a 47-year-old woman from Silverdale was driving north on Highway 3 when she attempted to pass and swerved into the southbound lane, striking the 31-year-old motorcyclist driving the opposite direction, totaling his vehicle.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for his injuries.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, according to a WSP memo.
Then at 11 p.m. the same day, a 49-year-old man was driving with a 23-year-old passenger on his motorcycle south on Highway 3. They approached the Airport Way roundabout near the Bremerton National Airport at a high speed and failed to navigate the curve, according to WSP, sending them into the brush alongside the roadway. Both were thrown from the motorcycle.
The driver and passenger were taken to St. Michael Medical Center. They were wearing helmets.
The 49-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular assault.
