One man killed in head-on crash near Sunnyslope early Sunday

A 26-year-old Guatemalan man was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 3 just south of Sunnyslope Road early Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Edwin Esquipulas was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck south on Highway 3 just before 1 a.m., according to a report from WSP. His truck crossed the center line just after passing the highway's intersection with Sunnyslope Road and struck a Ford F150 head-on. Two men in the Ford, a driver and passenger, were both taken to Tacoma General Hospital with injuries.

The highway was closed for nearly 5 hours after the crash. All three men were wearing seatbelts, and WSP did not indicate yet whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
