WSP: Bremerton man struck in North Kitsap was returning to site of earlier crash
The 61-year-old Bremerton man struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Highway 308 Wednesday evening was returning to the site of a previous crash, Washington State Patrol confirmed Friday.
Bruce J. Olsen, a Bremerton resident, had crashed his motorcycle around noon that day after, taking a turn too fast, WSP Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said. The motorcycle suffered minor damages, but lost a few pieces when the vehicle was laid out, Weatherwax said. Olsen left the scene after crashing, but returned later that afternoon to retrieve the lost items with his son.
According to the Washington State Patrol, just after 5 p.m. Olson was walking east on Highway 308 near the intersection with Vincent Road, just east of where 308 meets Highway 3. When attempting to cross the highway he was struck by a Honda CRV driven by a 35-year-old Lakebay resident, traveling west toward Highway 3. The Honda stopped on the right shoulder of the road. Olson was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died.
The highway remained closed for more than two hours, according to WSP. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected, according to WSP, and the cause remains under investigation.
