Chandler and Gilbert claimed the top two spots among the 96 most populated cities in the United States as the best cities for renters in 2023, according to a report done by Forbes Advisor.

Forbes determined the rankings for each city using a calculation score of 100. This assessment considered several factors, including the percentage of rent-burdened households, year-over-year rent increases, median household income, the percentage of pet-friendly apartments, the crime rate per 1,000 people, the number of food and drink establishments per 1,000 businesses, Trust for Public Land Park Score Rank, and the average size and price of one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Forbes's research ranked Chandler as the best city for renters, earning a perfect score of 100. While Chandler's rental units may not be the most affordable on the list, the city stood out with a 4.77% decrease in year-over-year average rent prices.

As per the report, Chandler had a below-average percentage of renter households spending 30% or more of their income on rent.

Chandler ranked in the top 10 for having a high number of rental units that included washers and dryers, dishwashers, gyms, and were described as "spacious," as reported by Forbes.

Forbes ranked Gilbert as the second-best city with a score of 99.37 out of 100. The report emphasized that Gilbert is an ideal choice for families due to its low crime rate, the highest median household income among the cities evaluated, and the lowest percentage of renters spending 30% or more of their income on rent, as compared to the entire report.

Forbes also noted that Gilbert offered a diverse range of rental options and was ranked 11th for being one of the most diverse cities for non-apartment rental units.
