Support legislation that addresses child poverty
It has been nearly two months since the House of Representatives passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act with a strong bi-partisan majority. This bill expands the Child Tax Credit for 16 million children in families with low incomes.
This is the first meaningful legislation to reduce child poverty since the fully expanded CTC expired in 2021, throwing millions of children back into poverty. Despite strong bipartisan support, a few obstinate senators are blocking it in the Senate. Estimates are that this bill will benefit 16 million children in families with low incomes, including 5.8 million kids under the age of six. Families should not have to wait months for Congress to pass something that is both popular and necessary. If the bill passes, families win. If it fails, senators can explain to voters why they chose to keep children in poverty. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell are in important leadership roles to press for a vote to be scheduled when they return from recess in early April.
Join me in urging a "yes" on the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act.
