Who is going to pick up the litter along Highway 3?
I guess I don't get around much anymore, but today when I drove from Port Orchard to Silverdale for a medical appointment, I was shocked to see how much trash is lying along Highway 3, from Gorst all the way to Silverdale, the commercial and medical hub of Kitsap County.
What happened to the "Be a good neighbor" ethic of the "Don't be a litterbug" campaign that worked wonders to clean up America, when I was a child, in the 1960's? Are people not proud of this beautiful area where we live? I will be embarrassed when out-of-town guests come to visit. How difficult is it to hold on to that piece of trash and throw it away when you get home? Have you no shame?
And even if everyone stopped this practice right now, there is a whole lot of mess that needs to be cleaned up. These cans and bags and wrappers and containers are not going to melt away. The litter is ugly. It is unsightly. And I am afraid that the more of it there is, the more people will add to it.
