Don't blame insurance costs on efforts to solve social problems
In her recent letter to the editor, "Increased crime is costing us all," the writer asserted that car thefts are the sole culprit of our car insurance rates increasing. This is categorically false.
Many sources cite extreme weather events, poor driving habits and increased cost of repair as the primary drivers of recent increases in car insurance rates. The writer goes on to blame thoughtful and productive policies like no or reduced bail and diversion plans is also leading to increased car thefts.
My daughter is a talented attorney working to help people in need in the prison system. She has helped me to understand the incredible benefits to our system in providing assistance and programs over "just lock them up" policies that haven't worked.
