After State of the Union, I'm convinced we need a third option
Disgraceful and disappointing vs. Disgraceful and expected. That is the State of the Union and the response.
President Biden did not bring in moderates by turning the State of the Union from a “how are we doing” event into a campaign event focused not on the future, but on referencing how bad former President Trump was/would be. I’ve never seen this event politicized this much, although Trump’s egomaniacal states of the union were bad too, at least he spent his time on his favorite subject (himself), vs. the other guy. If nothing else, Biden made never-Trumpers question if they can really support Biden with all his promises of handouts (where does the money come from?)The Republican response was pretty much as expected from a party that has robbed the moderates of any sense of ownership in the party. Leaving those of us in the middle with nowhere to go. How has it come to this? Biden was supposed to be a moderate. The Republican Party used to represent more than hard liners and used care about things like Democracy (both here and abroad, like Ukraine). Republicans would once have been outraged by anyone who spoke ill of veterans – but now they give Trump a pass when he does it, because “he’s just Trump”. Really? Do you not realize that Trump is an actor from a reality TV series? Now, I either support the party of handouts, or keep my money and watch the country implode by an actor who believes lying on financial forms is just a game if nobody gets hurt.We need a third option, now.
